ANFIELD STADIUM

Anfield is a football stadium in Anfield, Liverpool which located at Merseyside, England. The stadium has a seating capacity of 54,074, making it as a seventh largest football stadium in England. Even the stadium did not have a large capacity compare to other stadium but still it is a iconic and famous stadium in world. Anfield is the homeground for the most successful club in English history of football, Liverpool FC. The electric atmosphere during games is the reason for its well known. For me, the legendary atmosphere at Anfield known throughout the world makes the home of Liverpool one of the greatest in world.

As one of the supporters of this club, its a dream to go there one day. As i said, the atmosphere at Anfield is the reasons that makes this stadium iconic and for me to experience itself on my own there. Home to the Reds, who have won six European Cup titles, Anfield is always a treat for members of visiting teams, though it continue to instil fear into any opposition.

Besides, the iconic about this stadium is from the famous "This is Anfield" sign hanging in the tunnel , to the passionate home fans singing the anthem, " You'll Never Walk Alone". Anfield will be a place that forever be a favourite amongst players and fans alike.
The idea of putting the "This is Anfield" was installed by former manager Bill Shankly to instill fear into the opposition. It is located at the end of the tunnel before go out to the pitch. Nowadays, it is a trademark for all the Liverpool players to touch the sign before get into a match. It was a special trademark started by the club's legend, Steven Gerrard.

The crowd singing You'll Never Walk Alone Anthem

The Anfield stadium also already having a redevelopment. It all started by the Fenway Sports Group in October 2010 put into question whether Liverpool would leave Anfield. However, in February 2011 the new club owner, John W. Henry stated that he had a preference for staying at Anfield and expanding the stadium capacity.
In April 2014, the agreement has been achieve to redevelop the stadium where the renovation of the stadium worth around 260 million. The redevelopment divided into two phase where the 1st phase started at the end of 2014 that focusing on the main stand redevelopment to add the stadium capacity. The redevelopment completed exactly before the 2016-17 season.
The next redevelopment started during the season break before enter the 2017-18 season. This renovation is more focusing on the pitch. The ground staff at Anfield are working on the summer project to improve the playing surface and overall quality of the pitch. Some of the renovation was:

  1. A new automatic irrigation system - installed to help improve drainage from the pitch. It will allow the surface to be watered prior to kick-off in under three minutes. Anfield will also be the first stadium in the UK to fit the unique 'Permavoid' irrigation system which will speed up drainage, especially in wetter months.
  2. A new undersoil heating system has been put in place which will help aid growth and also prevent the ground from freezing during the winter months. As part of the undersoil heating system, over 19 miles of pipeline has been put in place to ensure optimum conditions for maintenance and grass growth.
For me, as a Liverpool fans this is an iconic stadium no matter what size of this stadium. But the atmosphere of this stadium during game attract me the most.
